thanks avid, anonymous reader. here’s what I got:
Don’t wear socks with them.
Do wear jeans, khakis, or chinos. Cropped pants are good. Show some sailor ankle.
Do waterproof and take care of them if they’re leather.
Don’t wear them in cold seasons.
Don’t go for the cheaper kinds… You will regret it. I trust Sperry’s.
Do wear muted colored pants/shorts if your boat shoes are colorful, and vice versa.
Do actually have some knowledge about boats because you might get ridiculed if you don’t (maybe you should even get in a boat with ‘em). and Do take into consideration that boating shoes are the bread and butter of frat-boys and cool dads. this is NOT a bad thing. Just consider this.
They have always been a preppy-staple in my book. Great shock of color for summer. make sure they’re not too faded and they fit just right so they don’t look like your dad’s shorts. Unless, of course, you’re into that type of thing. For color, I recommend brick red.
